Waveguide Model for Thick Complementary Split Ring Resonators

This paper presents a very simple analytical model for the design of Frequency Selective Surfaces based on Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR) within the microwave range. Simple expressions are provided for the most important geometrical parameters of the model, yielding an accurate description of the CSRR resonance frequency and avoiding full-wave numerical simulations. Besides, a qualitative description of the band-pass filter behavior of these structures is described, considering its high quality factor Q.Comment: Paper accepted at the 2014 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting. paper submission #286

The relative importance of inputs and outputs from the point of view of the researchers is shown. Differences detected between areas are also described. A quality assessment of journals in seven scientific fields (Law, Economics, Art & History, Social Sciences, Philology, Philosophy, Educational Sciences and Psychology) is described. The system developed has been used in several institutional assessment of R&D activities.

Study of the Business Model of three Earth Observation (EO) companies already present in the Very Low Earth Orbit market (VLEO)

    Get PDF
The emergence of a new private spaceflight industry has taken the Earth Observation (EO) sector by surprise. NewSpace companies are challenging the traditional satellite sector by addressing their services to mass market requirements of high-quality and low-cost EO. As part of the DISCOVERER project, this study aims to determine the Key Success Factors to consider by a new EO company at Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Hence, three businesses fitting the description were analyzed with the Case Study Methodology to establish their Business Model Canvas (BMC), associated Patterns, and Key Success Factors. The investigation consolidated the newly proposed Democratizing Business Model Pattern and added new characteristics. Successful EO NewSpace firms are getting divided between integrated operators, integrated manufacturers, and end-user specialists. A new EO company should consider the Democratizing Pattern success factors and the Vertically Integrated Strategies (VIS), depending on its disruptive idea and resource capabilities. Further research is needed to identify new factors, strengthen the validity of the Pattern, and VIS tendencies

Droplets of trapped quantum dipolar bosons

Strongly interacting systems of dipolar bosons in three dimensions confined by harmonic traps are analyzed using the exact path integral ground-state Monte Carlo method. By adding a repulsive two-body potential, we find a narrow window of interaction parameters leading to stable ground-state configurations of droplets in a crystalline arrangement. We find that this effect is entirely due to the interaction present in the Hamiltonian without resorting to additional stabilizing mechanisms or specific three-body forces. We analyze the number of droplets formed in terms of the Hamiltonian parameters, relate them to the corresponding s-wave scattering length, and discuss a simple scaling model for the density profiles. Our results are in qualitative agreement with recent experiments showing a quantum Rosensweig instability in trapped Dy atoms.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

On the resonances and polarizabilities of split ring resonators

    Get PDF
In this paper, the behavior at resonance of split ring resonators SRRs and other related topologies, such as the nonbianisotropic SRR and the broadside-coupled SRR, are studied. It is shown that these structures exhibit a fundamental resonant mode the quasistatic resonance and other higher-order modes which are related to dynamic processes. The excitation of these modes by means of a properly polarized time varying magnetic and/or electric fields is discussed on the basis of resonator symmetries. To verify the electromagnetic properties of these resonators, simulations based on resonance excitation by nonuniform and uniform external fields have been performed. Inspection of the currents at resonances, inferred from particle symmetries and full-wave electromagnetic simulations, allows us to predict the first-order dipolar moments induced at the different resonators and to develop a classification of the resonances based on this concept. The experimental data, obtained in SRR-loaded waveguides, are in agreement with the theory and point out the rich phenomenology associated with these planar resonant structures.MEC (España)-TEC2004-04249-C02-01 y TEC2004-04249-C02-02Comunidad Europea (programa Eureka)-2895 TELEMACAgencia de Subvenciones de la República Checa-102/03/044

This paper deals with a multi- objective formulation of the Cell Switch-Off (CSO) problem, a well-known and effective approach to save energy in such dense scenarios, which is addressed with an accurate, yet rather unknown multi-objective metaheuristic called MOCell (multi- objective cellular genetic algorithm). It has been evaluated over a different set of networks of increasing densification levels. The results have shown that MOCell is able to reach major energy savings when compared to a widely used multi-objective algorithm.TIN2016-75097-P Universidad de Málaga. La espeleología en el centro escolar, una propuesta en el área de la Educación Física

    Get PDF
Focused on the area of Physical Education, this article discusses a Teaching Unit proposal about caving to be carried out in the school; different examples of activities are commented and adapted from the natural environment to the educational context. With this proposal, students will have the opportunity to practice this sport in their own centre. Promotion of their personal development, involving physical, cognitive, behavioural aspects and awareness of environment’ respect and care values are also in mind. In this sense, the main purpose of this paper is to offer teachers a resource for doing caving within the different PE contents blocks, both for primary and secondary education.
